Peter Christian JohnsonDistance This body of work grew out of a contemplation of the notion of "distance". Both literal distance and distance as a way of discussing separation or alienation. I set out to visually illustrate the idea of being removed from something or not being able to grasp what you want. In this series the porcelain spheres become a symbol for something one desires. The pieces are designed in a way to entice the audience to move these porcelain spheres from their existing position to another implied receptacle. This desire is frustrated by the fact that the spheres are trapped in place, the movement cannot be achieved, nor the distance spanned. |
